Taiga starts with the conditions on Northern farms and in home gardens: the warmth available, the soil beneath each planting, the long summer days, and the time plants have to reach harvest.
That understanding guides our cold-climate seed collections, nursery plants, and practical learning resources. It also informs the development of Taiga HEAT Compass™, bringing plant science together with the experience and observations of the people tending those plants.
Our purpose is to help more of what gets planted reach harvest, building knowledge and confidence that carry from one season to the next.

Food-growing knowledge has long passed from parent to child and neighbor to neighbor: which seeds do well here, what to watch for as plants develop, and how to bring in the best harvest. As fewer people learn these skills alongside someone else, those connections have weakened, and practical knowledge has been lost along the way.
