On St. Patrick’s Day, Taiga Farm & Seed had the exciting opportunity to be featured as the first segment on WDIO’s *The Lift* live broadcast. Caroline Hegstrom, the founder of Taiga Farm & Seed, shared her mission to help Northlanders grow their own food, even in the colder climates of zones 3 and 4. The segment highlighted the power of home gardening and how it’s not only about growing food, but also about reclaiming our ability to control our food sources and contribute to a more resilient, self-sufficient community.
At Taiga Farm & Seed, we understand that one of the biggest barriers to growing your own food is the lack of accessible information, especially in northern climates. For those living in hardiness zones 3 and 4, gardening can feel like a challenge, with short growing seasons and unpredictable weather. Many gardeners are left in the dark, unsure of what will thrive in these colder zones. That’s where we come in—we offer seed collections carefully designed to succeed in northern climates, removing the guesswork and helping you grow your own fresh, healthy food with confidence.
This effort is part of the *Modern Victory Garden* movement, which encourages people to take control of their food production and grow what they need at home. By growing your own food, you’re also supporting the movement to bring local, sustainable food back into our neighborhoods and away from dependence on long-distance food supply chains. In a world where food often travels thousands of miles before it reaches your table, growing your own food is more important than ever. It’s a way to foster resilience, strengthen local economies, and create a deeper connection to the land.
We also know that gardening can feel intimidating for beginners, and many people worry about making mistakes. Our goal is to remove that fear. At Taiga Farm & Seed, we empower you with the tools, resources, and knowledge you need to succeed, whether you’ve been gardening for years or have never picked up a trowel. With our guidance and seed collections specifically tailored for colder climates, you can confidently grow your own food and embrace the joy that comes with it.
